The Empowered Community is the mechanism through which ICANN’s Supporting Organizations (SOs) and Advisory Committees (ACs) can organize under California law to legally enforce community powers. For more information on the Empowered Community, please click here.
Community participation and engagement in ICANN’s planning process is a cornerstone of transparency and accountability to the public. The FY21-25 Operating and Financial Plan and FY21 Operating Plan and Budget were the result of 11 months of collaboration between the ICANN org, the community, the Public Technical Identifiers (PTI) Board, and the ICANN Board’s Finance Committee (BFC). ICANN thanks all community members who participated in this important process and contributed to improving its outcome.
About ICANN
ICANN’s mission is to help ensure a stable, secure, and unified global Internet. To reach another person on the Internet, you need to type an address – a name or a number – into your computer or other device. That address must be unique so computers know where to find each other. ICANN helps coordinate and support these unique identifiers across the world. ICANN was formed in 1998 as a not-for-profit public-benefit corporation with a community of participants from all over the world.
